Tommaso Cotronei
Born in a little village in Calabria, Tommaso Cotronei began working with his parents at a very young age. Struck by the life of these people who had no other prospects in life other than toil and death, he fled this existence at the age of twenty-one. Cotronei spent several years searching for a place and life that suited him. In 1993 he became assistant to the filmmaker Vittorio de Seta, who was shooting in Calabria at the time. Cotronei finally found in film a means of self-expression. In 1997 he made his first film NEL BLU CERCANDO FIABE. In 2005, LAVORATORI, about the life of Calabria’s inhabitants, featured in the Video Competition. This documentary denounced an unwholesome world, where men can never free themselves from the secular structures that they continue to perpetuate despite themselves. In 2007 he directed RITRARSI, which also depicts the realities of peasant life in his native region. His latest film is COVERED WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS.Meanwhile it goes completing BLOOD AND THE MOON, a film shot in Yemen around the tragedy of child brides.
